About

Smokin' Meerkats

Meerkats have a preference for introversion. They are moralistic, gentle, and sensitive with a knack for all things artistic and creative. They're happiest in calm, cooperative, and supportive environments where they can pursue meaningful matters. On the outside, Meerkats seem very shy, quiet, and timid.

However, give them some musical instruments and a few beers, and the party starts.

Definition of 'smoke and mirrors' in American English

Elaborate deception or pretense: so-called after the use of smoke, mirrors, etc. by professional magicians to create an illusion.  Webster’s New World College Dictionary, 4th Edition. Copyright © 2010 by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. All rights reserved.

Country Music?

The term "country music" has been hijacked by big money corporations.  The great Dale Watson coined the term "Ameripolitan" music, because he couldn't stand to be called a "country artist" any longer.  Can you blame him?  Some boy band or Hip-Hop artist adds a fiddle to their "beats", and they are "country".  Not in our world.   Call it what you want: Honky-tonk, Outlaw, Americana, Ameripolitan or whatever.  It's the new wave of traditional country music, and the Smokin' Meerkats are throwing their cowboy hats in the ring.

Who are these guys?

Smokin' Meerkats are a 5-piece band based in south central Wisconsin.  Made up of seasoned veterans of the Midwest country music scene, as well as former national touring musicians.  Multi-instrumentalists, playing drums, washboard, electric & upright bass, electric & acoustic guitar, mandolin, harmonica, pedal steel guitar, dobro, kazoo, & maybe a surprise or two.  Playing original songs, as well as covers from artists like: Dwight Yoakam, Waylon Jennings, Chris Stapleton, Johnny Cash, Tyler Childers, Hank Williams (Sr., Jr., & III), Blackberry Smoke, Ernest Tubb, Old Crow Medicine Show, Midland, Rodney Crowell, Del McCoury and several more.
